Schemenlaufen, a traditional Fasnacht (carnival) procession held only once every four years in Imst, Tirol, Austria (31 January 2016). Pictured here, the two main groups of characters in Schemenlaufen – the Roller (‘jumpers’) and Scheller (‘ringers’), both in elaborate traditional costumes and masks, with the latter wearing huge cowbells around their waists – perform their stylised dance together in the streets during the procession. The Schemenlaufen in Imst is inscribed on the UNESCO list of Intangible Cultural Heritage. © Rudolf Abraham
