The proposed damming of the Rio Baker and Rio Pascua in Chilean Patagonia has been debated for quite some time – and the fact that it’s still even a remote possibility is both deeply depressing and profoundly shortsighted…. Chilean Patagonia has some of the most beautifully unspoilt landscapes I have ever seen, anywhere.

So, to the Chilean government: desecrating your natural landscape – one of the greatest draw cards for international tourism, and something of which every Chilean can and should be proud (more than half the Chilean population is against the dams proposal) – would be a spectacularly unwise move.
