An inscription above the entrance reads: Nos ossos que aqui estamos pelos vossos esperamos (‘We bones that are here, await yours’).

The historic centre of Évora is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Shot on a recent visit to the Évora region to photograph traditional craftsmen.

That inscription is a very forceful memento mori. It is quite chilling, more so than the bones themselves.
